-Since the start of the new year, the time I spend on Facebook and Instagram has decreased dramatically. I don't scroll much to see what's going on in other folks' lives. I'll scroll for a few posts, then exit. If I post something, I'm coming back only to respond to comments. I know I am missing out on a lot. And I’m OK with that.
-I saw someone post a question on FB asking what is the latest folk want to start having kids. This made me think about what 22-year-old KD’s plans were. By this age, my oldest should be in kindergarten by now; and I should be celebrating somewhere between 5 - 10 years of marriage this year.
Bwahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!
-A status from 2017 popped up in my FB memories last week about men asking women, on the first date, if they've had an abortion. Guys were commenting on my status trying to justify why someone would ask that question (Newsflash: You can't justify why someone would ask that question) and it made me think of the previous beau telling me what he adores about me and goes:
"...and you haven't had any abortions. Wait, you haven't had any abortions, right?"
Me: "That's never an appropriate question to ask. How would you feel if I asked if you paid for any abortions?"
-"Why? What's the worst thing R. Kelly has ever done?" - question asked by a man at a party this past weekend after I said R. Kelly on, so I'm not dancing at the moment.
-I had a conversation with an 88-year-old at my gym about dating as a widower. If I was at least 45 years older, I'd definitely hang out with him. He was so cool.
-Last year, on Ash Wednesday last year, I said I was going to be in New Orleans for Mardi Gras in 2018. I'm 3 weeks away from being in my favorite city. Someone else will have to pass out beads at the gig this year.
-DJ Envy and Charlamagne Tha God sounded soooooo ignorant while interviewing Amara La Negra on The Breakfast Club. Ugh!

That time I got "friend-zoned"...
...by my goddaughter, G-Baby #1, London Danielle.
Here's a quick story about being persistent and consistent.
In January 2015, my bff and her family came back to The States for good. London was 5 months at the time. Between wanting to hang my bff, and wanting my g-baby to know me, I started visiting them on a weekly basis.
The first day I saw them after their return, we took a trip to Babies R Us. London and I had a stare-down in the store. Right then I knew, it would take a while for her to get used to me. I never forced her to try to like me. I would go for a hi-5 and she would just stare. I'd say "OK" and keep it moving. LOL Babies can be selective with who they can stand to be around, just like adults. Kids are people too. So, I respected her space.
However, slowly but surely, the stare-down period at the beginning of each visit began to get shorter and shorter until it no longer existed. She started warming up to me. She finally gave me a hi-5. Then we started doing our little handshake, with a couple of twists SHE added to the end of it. Then she started hugging me when I would come thru the door if I asked for one. Then the "Danielle selfies" on my phone started to add up.
"Cheesy face!"
"Silly face!"
"Serious face!"
Then she hugged me as I was about to leave one day, wouldn't let me go, so I stayed for a few more HOURS. Then she started drinking out of MY water bottle. Then I had make sure to wear comfortable clothes when I'd go visit because I knew she'd have me on the floor playing with her toys (The blocks and turntable are my fave. What? Don't judge.). Then she learned how to say my name ("Keya!"). Then we took a trip to Party City, to get bubbles and listen to Beyonce's "Freedom." Our first solo outing.
And now she has her mom to call me while I'm at work. And she lets me know when she "go pee pee in the potty."
Yesterday, I told her mom that I was content with her never liking me. I thought she'd never warm up to me.
Look at us now! I climbed out the "friend-zone" and became family.
Her little brother, though? At 4 months, he has already warmed up to me. Only a matter of time before London and I teach him how to "bust shots" like we're on stage with Rihanna while she performs "Work."
If London knows how to do it (which, according to her mom, is my fault *clutches pearls*), Landon must know, as well.
BLOP!!! BLOP!!! BLOP!!!

How 'Bout We Don't
To say that I have been enjoying the beautiful weather we’ve had
since Memorial Day would be an understatement. I’m hashtag outcheah, having as
much fun as possible. Because I’m hashtag outcheah more than usual, I’ve seen a
lot of familiar faces. At a concert in May, and a party this past Saturday, I saw
familiar faces I hadn’t seen in years.
Who?
Female friends of an ex. And both instances occurred at the restroom.
The first time, I was washing my hands, and someone next to me goes “You’re [redacted’s] ex-girlfriend.” My homie was with me and she was ready to stroll up like Bey and her whoadies as I slowly turned my head to see who was speaking to me.

The second time, I was waiting in line at the restroom, “seal
broken,” and someone goes “I know you from somewhere. Don’t do me like this. I’m
drunk. But I know you.” I’m slightly tickled, slowly turned her towards me so I
could see her face (She was outta there!) and was like “What is your name?” She
says it, and I go “You’re [redacted’s] best friend.” I give the church hug and
continue to wait. There is banter with a drunk guy going into the men’s room
THAT NEVER HAS A LINE, then she goes “So, how’s life?"
See, this what we don't have to do. First of all, it's unnecessary. And B of all, she doesn't really care. I know
she was rooting for her friend to get with someone else before her friend
and I were over. I kept it short with “Life is good,” and continued to wait for
the next available toilet.
This is the only ex I have whose female friends have come at me awkward. I don't get it. I don’t recall ever going up to exes of my male friends and
saying anything to them! Not even when the liquor's in the system. It’s tacky, and unnecessary. The
most I’ve probably done is tell a
friend that I saw their ex. Other than that, I keep it moving.
I really have to stay away from public restrooms.

Basketball Chronicles: It's Still There
Back in February, I had drafted a blogpost about how I felt my love for basketball was dwindling. Basketball used to be my refuge from everything. When I was on the court, nothing else mattered. If I couldn't sleep, I would go put up some shots (Oh how I've missed going to a gym opened 24 hours).
It came to point where I was playing solely for cardio; like it was an assignment or something. I was playing with grown ass males who acted like children. I wrote about some of the ish I went through on this blog, but there was a lot of ish I didn't write about. You'd think after 4 years of playing with the same males every week, I wouldn't have to deal with them coming at me sideways every week solely because I am a woman.
So, I started running more. And it seemed running was going to replace basketball as my refuge...until I joined a another gym after moving back to the city. It wasn't that I didn't like playing basketball anymore...I just needed a change of scenery.
I am running the Divine Nine 5K in June, then I will begin training in August for the Hot Chocolate 15K.
15K.
9.3 miles.
WHAT AM I DOING!?!?!
After I conquer the 15K, there will be no reason for me to continue running. I have no aspirations to do a half or full marathon. Distance running is cool, but I have come to the conclusion that I really don't like it. I love basketball way more than running.
I am slowly but surely getting back to my refuge. I haven't stepped on the court in 3 weeks. That's 3 weeks too long.
That's how I know the love is still there.

"Tell Diamond to get her funky ass on stage..."
This year, I popped my "strip club cherry" while I was Jacksonville, FL for America's birthday weekend. I came in with $50 in singles, and proudly left out with none of those singles.
Men, I get it.
I get it.
These women in Jacksonville were so hospitable, hugging and thanking us after they got off the stage. Seriously, I was impressed. Not only were they flexible, and smelled heavenly, but the tricks on the pole were what got me.
Yes, please...take all my singles.
All at once.
There was one who just blew my mind. Her name was Brittany (I don't know if this is the correct spelling; wasn't like there was a scrolling marquee. Or maybe it was, but I was just so amazed by what was going on...). Now, Brittany was called to the stage multiple times. When she finally got on stage and got on that pole, she worked that pole with so much attitude. Like "Let me give these people what they want so I can get back to my game of '2048' on my phone."
Now, when Brittany came on stage, I was out of singles (LOL) but my girls would pass me a few to give to the ladies since I was standing up.
At one point, Brittany gets off the pole; showing her flexibility, patting her pum pum...working for those dollars. She lays down, places both ankles behind her head, calmly folds a dollar bill length-wise and places it over her vagina opening.
"What is she about to do?"
*dollar bill floats up into the air*
"HOLY SHIT!!! That's it! We can leave!!!"
Thank you Jacksonville. Thank you Mascaras. And most importantly, thank you Brittany!

"Keep ya heart, 3 Stacks..."
A couple of months ago, there was one guy on my radar with whom I would get in a relationship if he asked. Seriously. I asked on some "YOLO" steez if he wanted to go to Jamaica together for NYE. I really didn't want to be in Chicago for NYE. We are not going on the trip, due to circumstances that were beyond both of our control. And I'm OK with that. I do think us not going on the trip is a sign.
A sign for what?
After thinking about my last relationship, then when I re-dated someone last year after 10 years of sporadic communication, I've realized that I have to stop being so reckless with my heart. I have to get off that "Let's just do it...what do we have to lose" steez. I can't, and really don't feel like, dealing with another heartache due to some hastiness on mine and the other guy's behalf.
Nawl.
I know I'm not getting any younger, as I age like the finest Cabernet Sauvignon from Villa Sceriman winery (I need to figure when I'm going to drink this bottle I've been saving). But I damn sure don't have to rush into anything, or settle. I still have a few years before I give up on giving my G-babymama a G-baby of her own.
So what now? Just continuing to live, love myself, and Euro-step the bullshit thrown my way.
"Play your part, play your part."

Now what?
I didn’t want to let the month of July go by without me updating the blog. There has been so much going on that I can blog about, but after I say to Self “I could blog about this,” something else happens that I can blog about. It's like monkey brain...but outside the brain. hahahaha
Last time I wrote, I mentioned how I got started with my certification class. I'm certified to teach...now what?
Well, because of people going on vacation and other summertime activities that occur, summer isn’t a good time to start a class. So, right now, I’m subbing when needed and posting to @AHoopinYogi.
I really like posting pics and videos, guiding others through poses. I’ve had people ask questions, and I’ve also learned about different ways to do different poses. Though I can teach others, that doesn’t mean that I stop learning, ya know?
I’m also really enjoying the now. Yes, I look forward to upcoming trips or events that are planned, but I also enjoy what goes on in the present. Mediation really helps me with that because in those 5 minutes of stillness, I’m getting rid of any mental trash that clouds my thinking.
As a gift to myself for certification, I got some new ink on my leg. My biggest tattoo…and the 3rd one from the very talented Ryan Henry at 9Mag Tattoo Studio. When I arrived at my appointment, he was like “So I heard you’re going big with this one?” He LOVES doing big tattoos, especially on fresh skin. He was able to go ham with this one…and that he did! You’d think I would have gotten a yoga-related tattoo since this was a gift to myself for finishing my certification class. Well, the lotus that I have is yoga-related…so that’s handled.
But I had to get something that said so much about me without me having to say anything. I thought a customized Chicago flag was perfect. The placement of my zodiac sign and basketball is intentional. And I love it. Totally worth the pain.
Well, I randomly decided that I want to run a 5K that my gym has every year. Not a big deal, right? Wrong! I hate running when I’m not on a basketball court. I’d rather ride a bike for a 3.1 miles than run. The name of the 5K is “Anyone Can Do A 5K”. Why not me? Training begins tomorrow (Today, as you read this). Y’all pray my strenf!
Rest well, Ellean "Elaine" Wafford-Williams and Sandra Bland.

Hey June!
Seems like I was just maxing some Beggar's Pizza while sipping the finest Cabernet Sauvignon
while waiting for 2015 to arrive. Look at us now...almost halfway through the year.
I'm officially out of hibernation due to warm weather
showing up in Chicago, and having only two classes left until I am certified to
teach yoga.
Less than a week after I am done with my classes, I will
be on the beach, working on abandoning my light-skinned sisteren and brethren
for a few months. I haven't been on a vacation since Italy
last September. So this trip, and suntan is long overdue.
A year ago, I was falling in love with someone. Today,
I'm falling more in love with myself. Flaws and all.

Shit I'd Post On Social Media If It Wasn't Lent pt. trois
"Sometimes you need a 90-second dance break to Nelly's 'Na-Nana-Na'. I hit that damn Chickenhead/Monastery like it was nobody's business."
"I think the world needs a new Jazzy Phizzle Product-shizzle, My nizzle. Oh boy!"
"Don't understand calling someone a 'ho' after you've been with them. At some point that 'ho' was your wife. At some point you were in love with that 'ho'. STHU and move on."
"'Hood Politics' is like 'Cut You Off pt. 2'"
"Why didn't anyone tell me 'The Little Rascals' is streaming on Netflix Kids?! This is such a wonderful discovery!"
"If I can prep my apt for a party full of drunken adults who spill liquor, surely I can prep my apt for a play date with a 7-month-old, a 9-month-old and two 13-month-olds.
Look at me saying "13-month-olds' instead of '1-year-olds'. #godmotherswag #LaMadrina #BawseStatus "
"As someone who has a plastic bag full of plastic bags in my crib...I must say I've noticed a change. The durability of plastic bags has decreased exponentially in the past few months. I see you, Food 4 Less. I see you."
"This week, someone's 7-month-old goddaughter started waving when you say 'hi'. See...she already got the follow-thru hand motion. 2036 WNBA Draft pick. I'm tryna told y'all!"
"I hate Dwight Howard's haircut."
"No my name ain't baby. It's Kenya. AnditaintMissJacksonifyounastycuzthatsmymomsnameandthatsgross. Kenya will do just fine. Thanks."
"I roll my eyes when the camera constantly goes to her forever-grooving-at-awards-show ass. Like, OK we get it...she is enjoying herself. But I am seriously enjoying this Taylor Swift '1989' album."

Questions - 2.21.15
**Written on Saturday.**
This blogpost could have been written while I was on the train, heading to work. But because I'm torn between doing homework and taking a nap...here I am. I randomly decided before falling asleep on Mardi Gras night to give up all social media for Lent (along with candy). So, I use some of that idle time that was spent on social media to write in my little notepad.
Geez, what a lame.
j/k
So, in honor of Vibe magazine and indecisiveness...I present to you 20 Questions.

So, in honor of Vibe magazine and indecisiveness...I present to you 20 Questions.
- Why can't I sleep past 9a when my alarm clock is off?
- Am I old?
- Did they ever find out who let those dogs out?
- Whose version of "Creepin" is better: Luther or Stevie?
- Is Lil Wayne ever gonna release Tha Carter V?
- What do my neighbors "like" me to blast more: "Songs in the Key of Life" or "Innervisions"?
- Why didn't Drake give us a date and time so we'd know if we'd be late?
- Why aren't there are more recreational basketball leagues for women?
- Who told Nike to stop selling my fave hoopin shoe in my size?
- Who else is ready for Winter to get the hell up outta here?
**OK, so I could only think of 10. Maybe I should take that nap.**

I've chronicled my thoughts on Jhene Aiko in prior blog posts. Looking at my history, it seems I've touched on the topic of her music every year since 2012 in the following posts:
In the "Randomocity" post, I stated that she was growing on me. I was listening to a couple of Stacy Barthe mixtapes and it was something about her voice that reminded me of Jhene. So, I'm like "If I dig Stacy, then I have to give Jhene another chance." So, I started adding "Sailed Out" in my rotation and I dug it. Then she released "Souled Out" and I really liked what I was hearing.
This past Saturday, I attended a concert that she headlined. Her opening acts included The Internet (Already loved them), and SZA (I LOVE her stage presence.) Jhene comes out and the first song she performs is "Limbo Limbo Limbo." I turned to my girl and said "I'm going to like this album more after this concert." Sure as sh!t stinks...
I can officially say I am a Jhene Aiko fan. I said I wouldn't give up on her...and I didn't.

Nike loves Chicago
On August 14th thru 16th, Nike held the World Basketball Festival in my city, Chi-City. This festival wasn't on the north side; it wasn't downtown. No, this festival was held on the best side of the city...the south side, at the 63rd street beach.

Of course I had to throw on the #8.
I didn't know what to expect at the festival; I just knew I had to go. I checked out the Tournament of Champions, watching some of the best in the Chi play against some of the best in NYC. I saw hella Chi-town basketball legends. Current NBA players, retired NBA players, and plenty of movers and shakers of the city.
But the highlight for me was the exhibit that gave a history of Nike basketball shoes. From the very first pair of basketball shoes made by Nike, to Forces, to Flights, To Jordans, to Lebrons, to Kevin Durant's...I wish I would have taken pictures of everything. What was so dope about the exhibit was how it was customized for Chicago. When I saw pics of two parks I've frequented as a kid and adult, I couldn't help but to smile.
Seeing these pics took me back to when I first started playing basketball. I didn't even have proper basketball attire, but I was in the alleys on the milk crate trying to establish my game; pretending to be Scottie Pippen in a game we made up called "The Passing Game." When we got older and were able to ride to the parks, we'd go to Avalon, Cole or Tuley Park; wherever we could find a pick-up game. Then, as an adult, I was at Cole, and then 63rd & Hayes when I moved to the South Shore area. Some people got their suntans at the beach. I got mine on the basketball court.
I truly do love this game of basketball. I'm sitting here typing right now with my left forearm on fire after it caught a serious elbow this morning. I don't know. Maybe it's not meant for me to wear heels until I'm 75 like my grandmother. But I do know I can't let this game go. Whether I'm playing or watching...it's in my soul. And it's nothing I can and will do to stop it.

Music Monday - 2.24.14
The relationship I have with The Foreign Exchange's music is similar to my relationship with Jill Scott's music. I was introduced to The Foreign Exchange via their second album "Leave It All Behind" and immediately fell in love with it.
I feel like their albums are telling a story from the first album until the last; a story to which I can relate. Below is how I interpret their albums:
So below is my personal ranking of the studio albums from The Foreign Exchange:

I don't recall what it was that made me buy Chrisette Michele's first album when it dropped...but I am glad I did. With her latest album "Better" being in heavy rotation lately, I'd figure I'd bring you my personal ranking of her studio albums.

Randomocity - 2.11.14
Written last night, hence "2.11.14" in the title, and not today's date. Enjoy!

- I honestly forgot about Valentine's Day approaching.
- February is the beginning of the baby boom for my crew.
- Yes. Yes, I am rocking crop tops this summer thanks to this tattoo.
- Sometimes when conversing with my mom, she gives me this look...of admiration. Like she's proud of the woman she raised; or she's seeing how though I'm a grown-up, I'm still her baby. I look forward to the day I can look at my child the way my mom looks at me.
- I love my body...even my slightly knocked knees.
- My grandmother can't remember what she had for breakfast, but oddly remembers a conversation I had about me moving almost a month ago. The human brain is such an interesting organ.
- The city of Hammond...the county of Lake...the state of Indiana does not believe in salting and properly plowing the streets. It really unpeels my banana, son.
- I miss working downtown. I'm working on getting back there.
- I'm over winter.
- New Orleans...I miss you!
- Toronto...here I come!
- "Now I know how to love somebody/I've learned love is out there for me/There's no way that love forgot/Love won't leave me out."
- Thinking of retiring the "JUKBX" license plate.
- Yes, having an FWB* can be fun. But that ish gets boring...because it's just sex. I don't want anything more from you...boriiiiiinnnnnng.
- Or is it just me?
- Want to know if a guy who claims to be interested in you is on that shullbit? Ask a male friend.
- I love how my friends look forward to what has turned into an annual summer party at my crib. But last summer's party was so epic...I don't know if that can be topped. We kicked it from 10p - 4a. My patio was a mess. I had to shampoo my carpet.
Because, I care.
- I love my team.
- I need my couch reupholstered.
- That wasn't a euphemism.
- I said I wouldn't give up on Jhene Aiko...and I didn't. She has really grown on me.
- The CFO thanked me for my work on the annual compliance audit at the gig. There were no issues in the audit report that was presented to the audit committee today. It meant a lot to me coming from him.
- December 18, 2014 marks 10 years since I graduated from undergrad. Yikes!
- RIP Whitney Houston

J-walking...or something.
As someone who is a lover of fresh kicks, I didn't always have multiple pairs of shoes when growing up. I would get one pair of gym shoes every school year. I never asked my mom for a pair of Air Jordans because I knew damn well she wasn't paying more than $100 for some gym shoes. Plus, they didn't look all that great to me.
Back in '98, during my sophomore year of high school, our boys' basketball team was the shiznit, mmkay? I remember Quentin Richardson being the first person I saw rocking these particular Js. Like I said before, Js weren't appealing to me...but these young ya digs were the flyest I had seen thus far! And they were in my favorite colors. Seeing those shoes everyday was like being around a married man. I could look...but I damn sure couldn't touch because I knew mom wasn't buying them for me. After a while, I stopped lusting for those shoes.
Fast forward to 2005. Those shoes I loved were retro'ed!
And I HAD to have them.
Damn right, I still got them.
I love the shoes so much, that I got another pair as a gift when they were retro'ed again in 2010. Same style and color. I may have worn them less than 10 times. I'm not ashamed, either.
As of today, I now have 5 pairs of Js. The latest pair are all black Jordan 1s. I searched high and low for some all black kicks (because none of my gyms shoes are in solid colors) and finally found some...and they were only $60.
*fist pump*
Moral of the story?
There is none.
Happy Monday.

10 months...
Tuesday, the 21st, marked 10 months since I start my loc journey. The onliest downside of my hair growing has been my face breaking out. So, I change my pillow case more often, use less oil in my hair and went back to using good ole Dr. Earles cleansing system. I'm too light (in the winter) to have acne scars, son. This had to be handled.
